We are often told to try to accept people for who they are and not try to change them. The same is true for how we relate to the world, countered with the expectations that we bring. To the extent that you can accept things for the way they show up, rather than what you imagined, will save you a lot of angst and distress.

It is very difficult to come into a situation, without a whole lot of hopes and expectations. How well you fare depends on how quickly you can put the expectations to the side and squelch the thoughts of “I wish this was like this, rather than…”.  Just be with what is presented and turn off that filter of judgment. Judgment places you in the past or the expectation of the future and no longer in the present. When you are in the moment there is the possibility that something new may show up. You may actually enjoy yourself. It’s simply a much more powerful place to be.

Or, It’s like watching an amazing sunset and the whole time thinking, “This sunset is so amazing. It’s better than last night’s. When will I see another sunset so amazing?” Do you think you are really enjoying the sunset?
