Two days before the release of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) monthly Employment Situation Summary, the ADP National Employment Report has been issued and shows a job surge in September. The report is produced from actual payroll data and measures the change in nonfarm private sector employment each month.

The ADP report indicates private sector employment increased by 213,000 jobs last month, with gains among all sized companies; small businesses (88,000), medium size businesses (48,000) and large companies (77,000). Small businesses are classified as those with 49 or fewer employees, medium businesses are those with 50 to 499 employees and large businesses are designated as companies with more than 500 employees.

The largest gains (155,000 jobs) were made in the service providing sector with jobs in trade/transportation/utilities and professional/business services showing the largest gains.

The BLS of the U.S. Department of Labor will release its monthly Employment Situation Summary on Friday at 8:30 am.
