This week we start a new feature to highlight the idiocy that is overwhelming our community and nation. It seems that every day we hear a comment, learn of a new incident or are reminded of how deeply racist quarters of our nation remain, that we can only make the point that some people are simply Stuck on Stupid. What else can explain some of the madness around us or the lunacy that passes itself off as an informed perspective? There is no group, individual or political association that has an exclusive on stupid. It seems to surround us like fine Corinthian leather, in the words of 1970’s automobile pitchman and actor Ricardo Montalban. Each week we will bring you the most egregious of this fraternity, with the hope that you will also call them out in your own way, either through comments on the week’s “honorees” on the profile, comments on our Facebook page or the submission of an opinion article. At the end of the month, we will select our SOS honoree for the month.

Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick

This is a special case. You would think that after salacious text messages drove him out of office, the “Bad Boy” mayor would have learned. At least you would think he would have sense to find another way to “creep.” Apparently not. The Detroit Free Press reports that it was revealed to the Detroit City Council that former mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been trading text messages with a court appointed monitor and the two have had several rendezvous in cities around the country. The monitor has resigned her position and the F.B.I. has the text messages. Can it get any more stupid than this? Read on.


Fox News Talking Head Glen Beck

Proving practically anyone can be on television, this simpleton has the audacity to charge that President Obama is a racist and that he has a “deep seated hatred for white people or the white culture.” Huh? We have a deep-seated hatred for stupid, and you Mr. Beck, are about as stupid as it gets. We presume that you have forgotten that the President is bi-racial, so he must be torn between loving half of himself and hating the other half. We think when you look in the mirror you see a reflection of a Klansman in a hood and robe. Who are you anyway?


Urban Gangsters

It is bad enough that Blacks have to contend with high unemployment and joblessness, generational poverty and chronic health conditions that we should not have to dodge bullets in our neighborhoods fired by idiots who look like us. The scene this weekend in East Baltimore was a special type of stupid. A cookout is underway and some fool decides to do a drive by and shoots not just an adult but an infant too. Overall, 18 people were shot, some killed, in what has been described as gang related violence. Baltimore is not the only city that has become a shooting gallery. Two and a half hours north of Baltimore, Newark, New Jersey has had its own share of problems stemming from violence over the last several weeks. The Baltimore Sun reports that the shooting at the cookout was related to a gang feud. Yes, we know that crime also occurs in the suburbs but we are still heavily concentrated in the nation’s cities. This is stupid with a capital "S".
