“To suppress free speech is a double wrong. It violates the rights of the hearer as well as that of the speaker. It is just as criminal to rob a man of his right to speak and hear as it is to rob him of his money”
Frederick Douglass
“A Plea for Free Speech” Boston, Mass., 1860
Our priority in our reporting and editorial content is the truth. We seek to engage in truthful journalism and do not subscribe to the notion that objectivity equals truth. In trying to appear objective and fair and not offend, we believe many news organizations have abandoned their responsibility to be truthful in their journalism. We believe this to be particularly true in reporting on race and class. Our intent is to always treat subjects with respect but to make certain that we are holding ourselves accountable to facts and not swayed by emotionalism, while also being fearless in taking positions that might neither be popular nor recognized by the public.
