“And again I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.” Matthew 19:24

I was raised in a devoutly Christian family. My maternal grandmother was Pentecostal, and my paternal grandmother was Baptist, while I was raised by my mother in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AME Zion) Church, the Black Methodist denomination of Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Paul Robeson. The AME Zion Church is known as the ‘Freedom Church’ for its history of social justice advocacy and activism. My childhood and youth were spent in my local church and my upbringing was stamped by Biblical lessons imparted during Sunday morning in Sunday School and church, and affirmed at home. My siblings and I spent every Sunday in church and 2 or 3 times a week at church for auxiliary activities. My mother’s admonition “Don’t ever forget God” rings true for me today. It is why Donald Trump’s blasphemy and his embrace by faux-Christians is irritating to my spirit. While we are all sinners, Trump represents a deliberately evil and sinister rejection of Christ. It may be stretch to call him the anti-Christ, but he sure gives Satan a run for the money.

Every fiber of Trump’s being is contrary to Christ and his behavior is a rejection of Biblical scripture. This is a man who values human life solely on the basis of male Whiteness, and sees everything and everyone else as less than. His treatment of women and callous disregard for their humanity is seen in how he describes them and the pattern of alleged sexual harassment toward them. Trump’s lecherous behavior toward women is only surpassed by his creepy infatuation with his eldest daughter, Ivanka. He reserves his physical wrath toward White women and his hateful speech toward women of color he regularly deems ‘nasty’ when they challenge his sexism and bigotry. Jesus had a special place in his heart for children as he proclaimed in Matthew 19:14, “Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” Donald Trump sees children as things to manipulate. He praises White children who brandish firearms and murder peaceful protesters. He puts immigrant children in cages as a way to show his disgust with non-White nations. Trump regards Black children as disposable as we witnessed decades ago when he attempted to paint 5 innocent young Black men as thugs deserving the death penalty for a crime they did not commit in New York’s Central Park. Donald Trump views the “least of these” highlighted in Matthew 25:40 as unworthy and a barrier to his penultimate pursuit – money. His failure to take COVID-19 seriously and lack of concern over the vulnerability of Americans without health insurance reveal his deep-seated dissonance and resentment of the poor and economically marginalized. Trump’s obsession is money and his behavior reeks of the warning of Matthew 19:24. He is the rich man destined for damnation due to his placing money over the value of human life. Trump is willing to let, and be complicit, in the death of every poor, Black and brown people if it will enlarge his power and increase his wealth. He is the Biblical King Saul, who was given much by God only to have it taken away for the error of his ways and his rebellious nature toward God.

“Donald Trump can’t be a Christian because he is incapable of repenting. He has no redeeming qualities that afford salvation. No amount of prayer or baptism is capable of saving this man.”

Why do so many so-called evangelical Christians support Donald Trump? These are the false prophets Christians are warned to take heed of in Matthew 7:15. Since the advent of the White Christian church, White supremacy has been at its core. The whitewashing of Christianity extended from coloring Jesus White to twisting Biblical texts to demonize Black skin and justify the enslavement of Africans, and ultimately designing a system of White supremacy to permanently oppress non-White peoples. White Christians weaponized the Bible and created a narrative meant to purposefully deny Black and brown people their secular constitutional rights. The reason so many White evangelical ‘pastors’ hail Donald Trump as the Second Coming is because he fulfills their false prophesy and advances a racist, pseudo religiosity at the highest level of our national government. The photo of Trump’s holding of a Bible upside down in front of St. John’s Church near the White House was the equivalent of the poster of the creepy demon child Damien in the 1970s flick ‘The Omen.’ Trump and his evil cabal of false prophets view the Bible as a prop to serve their self-interest.

Donald Trump can’t be a Christian because he is incapable of repenting. He has no redeeming qualities that afford salvation. No amount of prayer or baptism is capable of saving this man. I am convinced of this. He is a megalomaniac in the spirit of Saul, Hitler, and Stalin. Trump is a delusional maniac who fancies himself a deity and who is buttressed by a White Supremacist Christian flock that is only concerned with preserving the advantages of Whiteness that they see eroding in America. Donald Trump is an evil that, if allowed to fester any further, will be a mortal threat to women, the poor, non-White people, and children, not just in the United States but around the world. Like Saul, only Trump’s demise will save America.
