In addition, the New Democratic Coalition announced its leadership for the 111th Congress. The Coalition is considered the largest bloc of moderate Democrats in the House of Representatives. There are 71 Members in the New Democratic Coalition, including 15 newly elected Members of the House of Representatives. The group re-elected Rep. Ellen Tauscher of California as Chair and also elected Rep. Joe Crowley of New York as Whip, Rep. Adam Smith of Washington to lead the PAC, and Rep. Ron Kind (Wisconsin), Rep. Melissa Bean of Illinois, and Rep. Allyson Schwartz of Pennsylvania as Vice Chairs.

Rep. Tauscher noted, “The NewDems will play a critical role in the success of the 111th Congress by continuing the Coalition’s role in rebuilding our economy and creating high paying jobs for American workers. NewDems will be at the center of bold efforts, working hand in hand with the Obama administration and House leadership, to make the United States the leader in green technology jobs, reestablish lines of credit for millions of Americans and businesses, make quality healthcare affordable, and establish our energy independence through innovation.”
